Rut Roh, White Girls!!

Have you seen @Chescaleigh's video, "Shit White Girls Say . . . to Black Girls"? It's hilarious and true and good for conversations!

So what do you think - have you said or done any of this stuff?

I certainly have, most recently using the word HOLLA!!! a lot. Like, A LOT. Of course, I actually say "holla" and not "holler". ;)

DANCE PARTY FRIDAY! Gold Pants Edition

Before we kick of Dance Party Friday, I gotta share a blogger award that was sent my way this week.

Wendy of the Wendy & Adam blog gave me a Stylish Blogger award. Thank you! Y’all should check out her blog, it chronicles her life as a grad student, married to a firefighter! I’m not exactly sure what style is being referred to – my blog? What I’m wearing while I’m blogging? HOW DO YOU KNOW WHAT I’M WEARING WHILE I BLOG?! And where is my tin foil hat?

No, I truly appreciate the award. Seriously. SRSLY. There’s a hitch – you gotta pass it on to 15 other bloggers. Um, I’m not sure I have that many peeps to pass it on to, and I don’t know that they’ll even see this. But this is my blog and MY rules, so I will pass it on to blogs I like and think you should read, ok?

For those of you who have Facebook fan pages based on your personal page, and have experienced limitations in being able to “like” pages, comment as your fan page, etc – Facebook has an new option that will allow you to switch back and forth between your personal profile and any other pages based on it. Just go up to Account, then select Use As Facebook Page, and pick the page you want to “act” as. You then have the ability to like things as your shop (and it will actually show up on your SHOP page, not your personal page) and more! You can switch back and forth as much as you like. Thank you, Facebook!

Ok! Now – let’s get down to business.

My buddy Alicia sent me the video below, and the rest is history. Watch this video and you will laugh. You will SHAKE IT. You will wonder if you saw her on Yo Gabba Gabba (the answer is yes). But most of all? YOU WILL WANT THOSE GOLD PANTS.

make it, make it, make it, make it, faster, faster, faster, faster, WORK THROUGH THE PAIN, WORK THROUGH THE PAIN

I think we’re gonna go with the quirky theme today. They Might Be Giants may have been one of the soundtracks to your high school years (they were for mine – run out and buy Flood if you don’t have it already!) but they also make tons of kids music . . . kids music that doesn’t make your ears bleed. They’ve done lots of kid show themes, too! This is a favorite in our house. I mean, it has a DISCO CLAP. Come on.

Why yes, it is true that I went to their concert in the Summer of 2009. And? I have to say, I was a little shocked at how the crazy feelings of being overwhelmed when hearing their music hit me in the face, just like it did in 1988. Also? HOT.

For some reason, I couldn’t get this hilarious dance instructional video to post correctly, so you’ll just need to use the link.

;)

Dance Party Fronday!

So we didn’t get to the dance party last Friday, but who says we can’t just have it on Monday instead? It’ll get our week off to a great start.

Without further ado, here are your jams for today. Get moving!

“A-Punk” by Vampire Weekend. This song sounds like ME. The phrasing, the music, the bounciness with low-key waves every once in a while. Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey!

“American Boy” by Estelle, featuring Kanye West. I listen to this song almost once a day. It has a great beat, fun lyrics.

“Purpose” by one of my all-time favorite bands, 311. Such a good groove . . . my
favorite song by this band.

“Maneater” by Nelly Furtado. A departure from her “I’m Like A Bird” days, but a fun departure. This song makes me want to do the wop. A lot.

What helps you get moving on Mondays?

A plan . . . I have one!

Friends, I has a plan. A plan to turn this blog into the shiniest, sparkliest, most interesting and inspirational blog the world has ever known! EVAR!!

If that doesn't work, my Plan B is just to get back into blogging on a regular basis.

So look for one of the two, in the pretty near future.

In the meantime, please check out Eastern Europe's response to The Biebs. #heseverywhere

I am so in love with this movie and all the music from it. Besides knowing some of the topics within it so intimately, it reignites my daydream of becoming a singer/songwriter who has guitar, will travel. Sigh. Though my guitar would need to be a keytar. ;)

Some of my co-workers and I have joked around about creating an office band . . . maybe we should!

Work Through The Pain

I've applied to get a booth at this December's What A Load Of Craft in Iowa City, mainly so I can get front row seat to a performance from Leslie and her gold pants.

Please send a representative . . . I have just made the world's largest gem sweater. In the world.

oh, hipsters

Are you like me? Do you come across a new musician or band, and fall in love with them and have to find ALL of their music? And sometimes listen to it strictly in chronological order (release date) or sometimes just mix it up? And you listen to the same song 30 times in a row which makes your office mate throw things at you? Or maybe she just does that in her mind but she's too polite to do it really? Ok, so really you dont listen to it 30 times in a row because you're not THAT inconsiderate, but every time she leaves the office you put it on? And you also sneak it into your playlist rotation every few songs thinking maybe she won't notice?

No?

I'm the only one who does that?

I can't help it.

New obsession!!!! Love this band (Fleet Foxes). I told a friend yesterday that they sound like Brian Wilson had a baby with an Appalachian cave, with the moonlight making everything all silver and blue.

America is an unstoppable oil dependency-breaking machine!!!!
Unfortunately the machine runs on oil.

Shocker: He gives Nixon more eco-friendly props than anyone else!

In the mood for a scary movie

2 movies which scared the pants off of me years ago.

This one I saw at a slumber party when I was 7 or 8.

And this one I saw when I was pregnant with my firstborn . . . the TV was on when I went to sleep, I woke up near the beginning and began watching it, got creeped out, fell asleep before it was over, and thought it was probably a nightmare. Years later I remembered it and looked it up, and turns out it was a somewhat famous movie by the guy who directed it, about a real location in Australia.
